FRIENDS & FAMILY SPRING 2026 ALLOCATION

Hello Friends and Family -

Greetings from the Hazelfern fam! Hope that you had a great winter and are gearing up for what is turning out to be another early Spring here in the Willamette Valley. The buds on the vines emerged @ Hazelfern this week, and we’re hopeful for another great season in Oregon.

We’ve spent the past month here at Hazelfern bottling our new wines from the delicious 2024 vintage and prepping the vineyard and winery for an exciting year ahead. This Spring also marks our 10th Anniversary here in the Hazelfern Barn – it’s hard to believe that we’ve called this magical place home for 10 years already… time really does fly, and we are so grateful for your continued support of our dream, our family, and our wines.

Enough about us, let’s talk about the new wines! We’re very proud to release the first of our new 2024 wines over the next few weeks. The 2024 growing season was a dream scenario with ideal conditions for growing grapes in a cool climate wine region. The grapes were pristine and got plenty of hang time on the vine to develop complex and soulful flavors… 2024 is the kind of vintage that winemakers absolutely love here in Oregon. The resulting wines are delicious and age-worthy – even though they were just bottled, we are really enjoying them already!

Spring Friends & Family Wine Allocation:

First up is our 2024 Pinot Noir from The Hazelfern Vineyard - the vineyard Bryan and I planted here at the Hazelfern barn with our daughters when we first started. It’s been so fun to see this dream of growing our very own wine from the vines we planted become a reality, and we’re SO EXCITED to share the next chapter from this site! The 2024 “The Hazelfern Vineyard” Pinot Noir is extremely textured and complex.

Next up, we're excited to share our second single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Stardance Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. OG Hazelfern fans will remember that we had a Pinot Noir from Yamhill Springs Vineyard from 2015-2019, until that vineyard was put up for sale. Directly next door to Yamhill Springs Vineyard is a vineyard called Stardance Vineyard, and Bryan has been trying to work with that site since 2019. We finally had our chance starting in 2023. Stardance is an exceptional vineyard, and we’ve really enjoyed having the opportunity to work with the fruit. The 2024 wine already tasting electric and delish (it’s one of Bryan’s favorites this year).

Chardy Party! Last, and certainly not least, is our single-vineyard Chardonnay from Rock Block, Hazelfern's crown jewel Chardonnay vineyard in the Willamette Valley's Cascade foothills. Rock Block vines sit in a pile of basaltic rocks at 1000 feet in elevation and produce exceptional fruit. Rock Block Chardonnay is known for its intense pear fruit flavors and stoney minerality, and in a cooler vintage like ‘24, Rock Block really delivers! We’re thrilled to debut the 2024 Rock Block Chardonnay to our Friends & Family and really hope you enjoy it.

The Spring Friends & Family allocation includes six bottles - 2 bottles each of 3 new release wines:

  • 2024 Pinot Noir, The Hazelfern Vineyard (Friends & Family $60/bottle)

  • 2024 Pinot Noir, Stardance Vineyard (Friends & Family $55/bottle)

  • 2024 Chardonnay, Rock Block (Friends & Family $55/bottle)

About the 2023 Vintage:

The 2024 growing season in the Willamette Valley will likely be remembered as one of those “winemaker’s dream” vintages—well-paced, balanced, and defined by generally ideal conditions (warm summer days and cooler than average nights) for cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

After the extremes and variability of recent years, 2024 offered something that felt a little more old-school here in Oregon: a cool, mild start and finish to the season, with just enough summer heat to keep things moving without ever pushing the vines into too much stress.

The season began with a wetter than average winter and spring, which gave the vineyard soils a strong recharge and set the vines up with excellent vigor heading into the growing season. Budbreak arrived in mid-April – pretty typical timing for us here at Hazelfern - and the vineyard moved into a steady and healthy growth cycle through May and early June.

Early summer bloom coincided with a series of rains, which naturally reduced yields across most sites. In many ways, this acted like built-in fruit thinning, reducing the need for extensive crop adjustment later in the season and setting up nicely balanced vine loads heading into ripening… ideal for hang time and complex flavor development. Overall, the vineyards never felt pushed—just gently nudged along toward ripening.

As we moved toward late August, a light refresh of moisture arrived in the form of a drizzle event that left the vineyard clean and recharged heading into the final stretch of ripening. From that point forward, the vines were able to finish the season in very stable conditions, with slow, even development and excellent hang time.

Overall, 2024 produced a moderate crop of beautifully balanced fruit. The wines are shaping up to be concentrated, fruit-forward, and layered with complexity with lower alcohol levels keeping the wines very fresh and alive. 2024 should go down as a classic Willamette Valley vintage!

I’m so excited to share our new Pinot Noir from the vines we planted here at the Hazelfern barn in 2015. Our first Pinot Noir vintage was in 2019, and it sure has been rewarding to see these vines grow up and discover the personality of this vineyard and the resulting wines.

Living here on the property and doing much of the farming myself, I get to interact with these vines every day throughout the growing season. Each year, I watch them grow and adjust to the weather, and I start to think about how I want to make the resulting wine starting early in the season.

Starting in 2024, I added some whole clusters (20%) to the fermentation for the first time on this specific wine. My goal is to add some depth and additional mouthfeel/spice to the structure of the wine which typically is pretty plush from our deep volcanic soils. I'm very happy with how it turned out in 2024 and continued with some added whole cluster in 2025.

The vineyard here is planted on Jory (volcanic) soil, and in the Willamette Valley, we like to say that red volcanic soils produce red fruited and elegant wines. Now that we’ve completed the 2025 harvest, and I’ve had a chance to make wines from these vines for several vintages, it’s safe to say that the consistent fruit profile is spiced red plum and the wines are showing good depth and minerality on the finish.

This wine represents our entire journey as 1st generation farmers and winemakers, and I really hope you enjoy it!

Tasting Notes:

Elegance and grace from our estate vineyard. Aromas of farm fresh Santa Rosa red plums, cherries, and wild red currants are accented by rose petals, blackberry bramble, cardamom and a rush of baking spices like cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. On the palate, this wine is plush with a salty minerality that carries the long finish.

(qty. 2) 2024 Pinot Noir, Stardance Vineyard, Yamhill-Carlton, Willamette Valley
*$65 / $55 (Friends & Family)

I'm excited to share our 2nd ever bottling from an incredible vineyard that I have the honor to work with - Stardance Vineyard in the steep costal mountains of the Yamhill-Carlton District.

OG Hazelfern fans will remember that we used to make a Pinot Noir from Yamhill Springs Vineyard from 2015-2019, until that vineyard was put up for sale. Well, directly next door to Yamhill Springs Vineyard is a vineyard called Stardance Vineyard, and for four years I would stand at the top of Yamhill Springs Vineyard and look over at Stardance and dream of being able to work with that fruit.

In 2020 I reached out to Stardance Vineyard's owner, Shirley, via e-mail to express interest in working with her incredible fruit. It took Shirley three years to reply, but in 2023 she walked into The Hazelfern Barn to introduce herself. After thoroughly interviewing me and vetting our wines, Shirley finally gave me a shot to work with her fruit (an honor).

The vineyard is planted on extremely steep slopes with a unique soil that has high iron content and very deep cracks/fissures allowing the vine roots to get very deep into the bedrock. It's a very unique terroir for the Willamette Valley and we’re very excited to have the opportunity to work with the fruit. The 2024 wine is fresh and transparent - a lively and age-worthy wine from this special site.

Tasting Notes:

Layered and dynamic. Aromas of Bing cherries, fresh picked strawberries, and black plums are accented by tarragon, fresh earth, and dusty herbs to keep it real. The palate is layered, with notes of dark cherries, black peppercorn, dried tobacco leaf, and a solid frame of respectful tannins and acidity that continue to evolve with each sip.

Delicious with:  comté cheese, mushrooms, and filet mignon

100% Pinot Noir
13.0% alcohol

High elevation and incredibly rocky basalt soils make Rock Block an incredible site for growing world-class Chardonnay.

Those of you who know me well or follow us on Instagram, know that I love Willamette Valley Chardonnay! I love to make Chardonnay, and I love to drink Chardonnay. It's a huge focus for us in the winery, and Rock Block is our crown jewel.

TAKE A TOUR OF ROCK BLOCK W/ BRYAN

Chardonnay from the Willamette Valley is not your mama’s Chardonnay – no oily and flabby butter bombs out here. I love that Chardonnay can be made in so many styles, and that the decisions I make as a winemaker can really impact the outcome of the wine.

The 2023 Rock Block Chardonnay is our sixth vintage of single-vineyard Chardonnay from our Rock Block Vineyard on the eastern edge of the Willamette Valley in the hills outside a small town called Scotts Mills. This vineyard is special you guys. It’s very high elevation at almost 1000 feet and the soils are incredibly rocky which is great for growing really good Chardonnay.

This Chardonnay is 100% barrel fermented and barrel aged, but is balanced with refreshing high elevation acidity. The Rock Block Chardonnay has incredible texture and a touch of perceived floral sweetness (although it's completely dry) that balances the high elevation juicy acid structure.

Tasting Notes:

Texture for days. Ripe fruit flavors of d'anjou pear, lemon curd, and madarin zest are layered with accents of jasmine, orange blossom, cracked white pepper, allspice, and stoney minerality on the long finish.
